Is it time for the United States to distance itself from Israel?

The United States has supported Israel since its creation. Untold billions have been given to Israel since its creation. Israel has no natural resources for us to exploit. There is no real reason Israel is given the unwavering, unquestioned support of the United States government backed up with tax payer dollars. So just what are we paying for? As of this moment I do not see what The United States is getting from this relationship other than a proxy and sometimes ally. We have reaped decades of hatred and strife for this support. As the United States barrels into rarely seen economic woes do we really have the funds to be giving away? It seems that for all we sow in Israel we reap bristles and thorns. Is it time ume a more distanced role from this whole situation? What can Israel supply that we actually need?
